De-Lovely

February 1, 2010 - 4:19 pm No Comments

I saw this movie to see Kevin Kline in action (excellent) and to learn more about Cole Porter. Unfortunately the movie is a bit thin on the man himself - no doubt knowing he had an amazing marriage (she has played very well by Ashley Judd) and his music was very popular and durable, but why write that kind of music?

Why was he in Paris? Why do people devote their lives to care for him?

I do not feel I know the man at all, although I found myself saying on a number of songs, “Oh, that was one of her so well?”

Each new Woody Allen film in the last 15 years has been hailed as a return to form, only to be swiftly re-evaluated as cannon fodder for the arms of darkness, and “Melinda and Melinda ‘is part of the device bill. The processing is clumsily written and performed, and the whole premise is wrong Melinda And Melinda Anyway: This is not the same story in two versions, but two different stories. There is the pleasure you get from the film for Allen fans, like me, but I doubt that anyone can enjoy it, although the view of Chloe Sevigny intellectual references jets is good for a (unintentional) laugh.

Switchblade Romance

Switchblade Romance No doubt the sub genre of horror that always leaves the most unpleasant taste in the mouth has to be the slasher film. From its origins in movies like Friday the 13th, seems to have followed the same tired old road kill young virgins, exciting sex scenes Togther held all the bloody violence distasteful. From the end of the slasher film has had to overcome in the last laps were introduced, more blood and more violence.

Switchblade Romance is a particularly nasty film of this genre that confirms everything related to the horror movie I dislike. Long scenes of violence, exploitation of female sexuality and rape presented to the viewer as ‘entertainment’ The plot is simple: the woman hunts down and kills man along the road. Somehow he makes a turn to make this movie more acceptable, but only left a bad taste in my mouth.

His violent misogonystic a dark tone. If you like your slasher films I’ve no doubt this will interest you. However, if you do not like violent movies gore with no plot, very unpleasant scenes and exploitation of the female body, then avoid this film at all costs.

What happened to a genre once relied heavily on suspense, not shock value at any price????
