Far From Heaven

Julianne Moore is excellent in this movie as Kathy buttoned-up housewife 50, whose own internal passion erupts after accidentally discovers husband Frank in the arms of another man. Dennis Quaid convinces as the family man trying desperately to overcome his hunger for men who look so longingly. I liked the way the movie made me feel the risks you took by going to a gay bar, where he had an identity, and cruising for sex.

It is interesting Far From Heaven Frank also to see what’s coming through the eyes of Kathy, a woman who seems to have no idea that men have not that kind of thing. I was disappointed that we never have any idea if Kathy understands the parallels when friendship with black gardener Raymond becomes something more. Hartford society is more surprised by their interracial relationship on the disclosure of homosexuality by Frank.

Frank and his lover can pass for “normal” in a way simply not possible for Kathy and Raymond.
