The Holiday

February 5, 2010 - 7:04 pm No Comments

Writer-director Nancy Meyers proved he knew what women want 2000 with the hit of the same name, and satisfied the most underserved female audience with Something s Gotta Give. Now it s throwing the Christmas market for Chick Flick, with a holiday romantic comedy that actually makes love look positively gritty. Beautiful, rich, workaholic Amanda (Cameron Diaz) has just expel cheating boyfriend (Ed Burns) of his palatial mansion and fantasies of a scene change.

Like, for example, a snow-covered cottage, Surrey, where love Iris (Kate Winslet) pines rogue colleague (Rufus Sewell) who might still be dating her if it was t used to another person. A few clicks on a holiday later exchange website, and Iris is rapidly explore their new spacious Cali, while Amanda looks curiously at his bathroom plumbing picturesque. Love comes, as it must, in the form of Iris drunken brother Graham (Law), who hopes his sister s crash pad and instead finds a slutty goddess who thinks that foreplay is overrated.

More in Los Angeles, the film composer Miles (Black) takes off with Iris. Since this is a movie, they place barriers in the way of both novels, not just the ticking of the clock to break the two pairs of separation after two weeks. If all of Long Island-Something s Gotta Give is a slice of pure porn Hamptons, then this is Hollywood and porn porn English countryside: the rustic charm and luxury living in Los Angeles, all wrapped in a great arc, Christmas red.

Meyers takes delight in the consumption of each detailof brilliant high level, the big screen incarnation of the magazine Elle Decoration. A new strain development is unlikely to know inside-joke about the film’s narrative. Iris should be the protagonist of her story, she said, s at one point, but she s stuck playing the best friend.

Amanda hallucinates his own history as a series of corny movie trailers. These flowers won t be giving Charlie Kaufman any sleepless nights, but not the film a fun, smart glow. We could, however, have no preaching Meyers acknowledge the falsity of modern film production and distribution (yes, really), but also from nostalgia for more innocent times Hollywood.

Let s face, The Holiday is a comedy package linked gilt borders and out emotion cleverly marketed relentlessly in its target demographic of women over 25. Who, in other words, are you kidding?

Be an appreciative audience for this great chick flick. But it might be you.

The Holiday

The Holiday This proved to be an extremely long rom com of the worst kind! The performance was over the top and very evil: with the staple, and now mandatory Cammie Kate having to prance about dancing! (Yawn!

Cammie shaking your booty is so old!). The final was settled rather dubious, I was walking through what I went through what seemed endless watching this saccharine nonsense.

Tell you what I liked: the sweet Cosey, compact stone cottage that Kate lived in ‘Surrey. I walked away thinking …. yeah! I want a house like this, especially if it comes with a bath of the minutes of the film!

The Holiday This movie is wonderful’m Very partial to good old romantic comedy and knew ‘the inside’ would not be dragged to see it.

Even I could see the ad that looked particularly twee and cheese so I grabbed my baby and we were classmates just before Christmas. The movie was great!

I love Cameron Diaz and Jude Law Ben Affleck has been removed from my number one since watching him in Closer and now this. He is a perfect gentleman! Kate Winslet describing the feeling of unrequited love and bright that all could relate to her (casting my mind back to when Chris Hobson ripped my valentine at school!) We’ve all been there!

A lovely sentimental film along the lines of Love Actually and Bridget Jones. Girls, go see it!

The Holiday To give this 2 stars is a bit mean, but to give you 3 would be generous. It is delivered reasonably well in the light entertainment and a sense of wellbeing.

Kate Winslet played her part well enough, but Cameron Diaz was unbelievable - his character was not real to me. I suppose the movie is done in America as it is the representation of England is very romantic in a way that undermines the credibility of the film rather than adding to its charm. Not just managing to keep my attention throughout.

Look, if you have nothing more to do, but do not expect to be captivated.

Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle

Charlie’s Angels 1976: Big hair, Farrah Fawcett, Charlie’s silver tongue, capers, high kicks and flashing guns. Charlie’s Angels 2003: tight around behind Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu in leather Drew Barrymore in a wig, no plot, no laughs, and did I mention tight around Cameron Diaz behind. This was terrible.

Terrible. Beyond the pail.

The first was bad enough, but this takes the biscuit. There Charlie s Angels: Full Throttle much of, though attractive, entertainers parading around in bathing suits and shorts.

Demi Moore should know better, and it’s no wonder Bruce Willis maintained its participation credits. Director McG clear that it would again make MTV and music videos, but can you believe someone has given him the next “Superman” film live??? Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle - Avoid.

Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is a whirlwind of a movie, a crazy, drug-laden story backed by a fist-pumping rock & roll soundtrack with everything from Wayne Newton and Tom Jones fuels Edison and Dead Kennedys . Journalist Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp) goes to Las Vegas to cover a motorcycle race, bringing along their Samoan lawyer, Dr.

Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro), in this furious adaptation of the book by Hunter S. Thompson. It is 1971, and Duke and Gonzo are on their way to Sin City with a fear hitchhiker (nearly unrecognizable Tobey Maguire) and a trunkful of drugs that are swallowed Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas Nonstop.

Depp is terrific as Duke, the alter ego of Thompson, and Del Toro is a riot as the crazy lawyer. Thompsonian to improve its performance, Depp spent time with the good doctor and is paid in a film that captures the frenetic pace of the counterculture novel.

Director Terry Gilliam, a master of complex, bizarre visual imagery, has a field day interpreting the drug-hazed world in which Duke and Gonzo reside. A cast chimes in with something wonderfully unconventional parties, including Harry Dean Stanton, Gilliam regular Katherine Helmond, Flea, Cameron Diaz, Ellen Barkin, Christina Ricci, Gary Busey, Lyle Lovett, and others.

The Holiday

The Holiday I do not often see romantic comedies, which tend to regard as not very original - once you’ve seen one that has seen it all! However, this was recommended to me by a friend, so I thought I would give it a chance. I am also a big fan of Jack Black!

I must admit that I quite enjoyed it. The plot is interesting - with the two girls and the exchange of houses going to opposite sides of the world, and I thought that how the couple met was fun.

There were a couple of predictable moments, but also a few laughs, and generally was a pleasant view.
