** Do not read if you have not seen the movie! ** It is not just a movie Superstar! This is more than that.

Excellent plot and, above all, great story telling talent, demonstrated once again by P. Vasu, of course, after a long time.

Vasu has always been an excellent storyteller. But in recent years, his films were terrible.

Excellent return! The film is about an ancient palace ABANDONED believed to b chased by Chandramukhi, a dancer who was murdered by the then king 150 years ago. Ganga - played by Jyothika - moves into place with her husband.

Memebers House complaining about something ghostly haunts the house and the Chandramuki they all believe that is the Chandramukhi dead dancer waiting for his revenge to kill the king who had killed her. Saravanan - played by Rajni - is a psychiatrist who comes home to find out the truth about spirits haunting the house. We now understand that suffers Ganga MPD, which only became apparent during recent years, segments of the film and she thinks she’s Chandramukhi.

Saravanan has to make crucial decisions to save himself or Chandramukhi - if he dies, so does Ganga. A good effort to explain the multiple personality disorder. Jyothika rocks, especially in the climax!

Cast includes Vadivelu, Nasser, Prabu and Nayanthara.

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

This is perhaps one of the most cringe worthy films produced by Bollywood in recent years. I can not understand how this film could receive as much public criticism and international acclaim. Public Respondents should be ashamed of applying the word ‘cool’ or ‘masterpiece’ to something so imperfect.

Although much work as in this film (songs, performances, etc. cast of stars), many are watching with gritted teeth - particularly during scenes starring Kareena Kapoor side handle. If you are looking for an all-singing all-crying masala modern classic, this is the film for you, but if you are also hoping to maintain their sense of dignity and respect for contemporary Indian cinema, Karan Johar’s Kal tries’ Ho Na Ho ‘in place.

People will look back on this film in 10 years and wonder what all the fuss. It swallowed up in the hype with it.

Although storng still has a sense of the surreal and disturbing it is a lot more exciting and moving film from a first expected. After opening to mislead the attention of the homes on the movie girls of the first afternoon of freedom, learning to interact, play and make friends, capturing perfectly and brilliantly funny how children behave.

It’s amazing to see the family who were involved in the original case to perform as themselves, each performance becomes an awsome so completely devoid of self consciousness is baffaling to wonder how the director persuaded young increadably relive their experiences entirely convincing. The film is, of course, much more than a strange domestic drama, which is an impassioned plea against isolationism, religious conservatism and repressive attitude that Iran is moving towards and a hymn to freedom and life. Surprising in every sense.

Don

SRK blended version compared to AB. I’m glad I saw the first AB as I SRK was able to understand better and be able to explain to my parents!

The scenery is very Western and places are good. They have modernized the movie - with good reason! The songs are good and flows with the movie.

Do not know if SRK to match my expectations. Feeling a little disappointed or maybe it’s because I’ve seen Don AB? Priyanka and Isha are good.

Even for the short paper that Kareena had I think he was good too. Arjun was great as a father. It was very compelling.

There is a twist at the end that’s why I say Don May 2 will be in the making soon - watch and see what you think! It’s definitely worth seeing.

Swades - We, The People

January 14, 2010 - 10:05 am No Comments

Swades is a simple but serious story with a message to (NRI Non Resident Indians) NRI in this film is given a new meaning: not back Indian! It is the same as Oscar nomimated Gowariker of Lagaan, in scope and entertainment, but certainly has a similar theme, namely: the protagonist is in conflict with the social system there and try to win people’s support to change.

Even the structure of the story is similar. However, the treatment of this subject is much more serious and although there is some light hearted comic moments, most of the film is very serious and deals with contemporary problems depressing poverty, caste and illiteracy in parts of rural India and makes it sensitive, subtle and slow. No wonder Swades has not done well at the box office since it is subject.

Nor, I am surprised that neither has gone relatively unnoticed by Western critics, who seem to be typecast as anything that Bollywood is singing, dancing and coloring. Recently I was watching a special on Bollywood ‘DVD Review’ on BBC, where a critic of the West, expressed his criticism in the recent Bollywood film ‘Black’ who had reservations about calling Black a Bollywood film, their reasoning is simply Black because they conform to the framework of standard Bollywood. It really is like saying that the Moulin Rouge and Chicago are not Hollywood movies as it does not fit within the framework of Hollywood.

This ignorance can be applied to Western critics who call “Bride & Prejudice Bollywood movie. Knowing that this type of ‘critical’ Swades are reviewing is not surprising, Swades - We, The People Swades that has gone unnoticed by them.

No “Bollywood” enough for his liking. Just by carrying out the above ignorant some of its mystery, the definition of a Bollywood film is a film that has been made by the film industry in Mumbai, India.

Now, moving to the rest of the review - Swades In my humble opinion is generally a product superior and more thought Lagaan causes in terms of history, depth, theme, music, direction and technical aspects. However, it lacks the universal crowd pleasing appeal of Lagaan and its epic qualities.

Swades also lacks the fluidity of people had Lagaan prey despite 4 hours runtime. That really can not be helped - given the issues Swades seeks to address.

I would have preferred that Gowariker has focused more on social issues that Mohan and his relationships. I have found to be disappointing and prolonged. Without giving spoilers, I will say that the final decision Mohan should have been different and the movie would have ended on a more ironic and powerful and be more relatable to an NRI.

This also would have finished with the last 20 minutes, which should have not gone the editing table. Swades is definitely worth seeing, as long as they will paitent with the film. If you are looking for entertainment, which also has Swades, but not much better films for this purpose.

However, if you want an intelligent and sensitive film about the real problems, and some melodious music and entertainment on the side, then it will not go wrong with Swades - 8 / 10
