Lethal Weapon

In tests of 80 films, it seems that the LAPD has been impossible only two police partner with like-minded. Each pair is attached to the cliché that opposites (possibly) attract. We felt the rookies and veterans, I have had men and women who have had comedians and vagabonds, tall and short, black and white.

Murtaugh and Riggs at least one variation in most of these issues. Murtaugh is the archetypal middle-class black boy-made-good cop who is waiting for retirement and mandatory seafaring yacht involved. Riggs, who lost his wife in a car accident, is a certifiable psychopath, jumping off buildings with potential suicides, drug use to infiltrate Lethal Weapon drug dealers, shoot first and think much, much later.

This can not be said of the film, whose style rarely occurs in the cost of the substance in a tightly woven network of murder, corruption, and a fine-liners. The cross-generational, cross-cultural jokes work well, and it s hard not to feel the geriatric convincing Danny Glover. Gibson also wins us over in a tour de force of contractions, sniffing and lead happy enthusiasm.

The script is sharp, the kind of tricks are, first, and the formula can t fail. The only question is, how many sequels can draw from it?

The pace never slows down, the jokes never fail and acrobatics never disappoint in this male dream of an Action.

16 Blocks

Willis, as usual, is fine and Donner, at least keeps things thriller in the style and look. But this movie should have been a fast race against time thriller in the mold of speed or just in time.

There are so many deaf dialogue breaks to make the film that never gets an advantage of the excitement of the seat. That is mixed with a clear 16 Blocks inaction (taking into account the bus scene out of control is good but too short) and an annoying performance “Mos def make this a good idea on paper, but poor in implementation.

If you feel the need to rent this - see the alternate ending is one of those times when you have not labeled with the finished product.
